Melenaite Fifita

We celebrate the contributions of Melenaite Fifita, patient navigator and staff research associate in the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement for the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Fifita’s primary responsibilities include providing outreach and education, primarily to Pacific Islander community members, to help them navigate cancer screening and treatment. In addition she coordinates several community-based projects that promote cancer prevention and early detection among many communities of color in Orange County.

Fifita also volunteers as a member of the board of directors for Pacific Islander Health Partnership (PIHP), a non-profit organization that has been actively engaged in programs and events to improve the health and wellbeing of Pacific Islander communities.

While serving as a Tongan interpreter and health navigator, Fifita co-founded Famili Pe Taha (FPT), a Tongan civic organization that hosts cultural linguistic classes, immigration and citizenship workshops, and mental health focus groups for the Tongan community in Orange County.
