UC Irvine School of Medicine’s Office of Academic Affairs provides policy analysis, interpretation, and training in academic personnel related issues within UC Irvine’s School of Medicine. Academic Affairs oversees the processing of all School of Medicine academic personnel actions and is responsible for many personnel related activities including academic recruitment, appointment, merit and promotion review, faculty development and mentoring, sabbatical leaves, special medical licenses, faculty diversity programs, employee and labor relations and volunteer clinical faculty administration. The university has a complex review procedure to build and maintain its excellent faculty. This review mechanism is designed to ensure that individuals are judged by their colleagues in accordance with fair procedures solely on the basis of professional qualification in matters of appointment and advancement. Academic Affairs believes that the dissemination of information, through on-going training to faculty and staff alike empowers those individuals to act in accordance with proscribed policies for the best possible outcomes.
