PhD Candidate Lisa Soyeon Baik, Physiology & Biophysics, spoke at the 2017 Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Neurobiology of Drosophila meeting. Her presentation was titled, "Circadian Modulation of UV light Avoidance Behavior in Drosophila". Ms. Baik is advised by Professor Todd Holmes.
PhD Candidate Lisa Soyeon Baik, Physiology & Biophysics, gave a presentation on "Drosophila Circadian Clock Entrainment by Novel Phototransduction Pathways and Subsequent Modulation of Light-evoked Behaviors" at the 2017 UCSD Center for Circadian Biology Fall Workshop on Biological Timing, La Jolla, CA. Ms. Baik is advised by Professor Todd Holmes.
PhD candidate Autumn Holmes, Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, is the recipient of the first 2017 Dr. Lorna Carlin Scholar Award. The School of Medicine is grateful to Dr. Lorna Carlin for supporting promising graduate student research. Ms. Holmes is advised by Professor Bert Semler.
PhD Candidate Sarah Cross, Anatomy & Neurobiology (advised by professor Frances Leslie), was awarded a 2017-18 UCI Public Impact Fellowship. Ms. Cross seeks to understand the neurobiological consequences of concurrent tobacco and alcohol use during adolescence, with a focus on how the kappa opioid receptor system is affected. The award supports student research demonstrating the potential to significantly improve or enrich life.
Harwood Garland, MS student, Biomedical and Translational Science, presented his health policy paper, "Should Military Service Members Be Protected Under the Common Rule?" to the Pi Gamma Mu Triennial Convention in Kansas City, November 3, 2017. Mr. Garland is advised by Drs. Sheldon Greenfield and Joel Adelson.
