UC Irvine School of Medicine earns full accreditation

June 19, 2017

Dear colleagues,

It is with pleasure that we announce that the UC Irvine School of Medicine has received a full eight-year continued accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).

The LCME is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the accrediting body for medical education programs leading to the MD degree. In determining a medical school's eligibility for accreditation, the LCME reviews its compliance with 12 LCME standards, which cover accreditation requirements for curriculum, student services, personnel, educational resources and policies.

Outcome measures include a review of student performance and satisfaction in comparison to schools across the country. In the exit interview after their recent visit, the LCME surveyors commended our School of Medicine's Office of Medical Education for its site visit preparations, institutional leadership and responsiveness to student feedback. Consequently, the LCME has awarded us the longest possible accreditation cycle, a reflection of the high quality educational experience and positive learning environment offered at UC Irvine.

We would like to thank every student, resident, staff and faculty member for their role in making UC Irvine School of Medicine a wonderful place to train. We extend our deepest appreciation to all who served on the LCME self-study task force, LCME self-study subcommittees and independent student analysis committee. And finally, a special thanks to the medical education team for their hard work in preparing for and coordinating the visit.

LCME accreditation can only be achieved through teamwork and a strong commitment to education. Thank you for the work you do every day in providing an exceptional learning experience for our students.
