The Office of Diversity and Community Engagement

Dr. Martha Sosa-Johnson
A welcome message from Dr. Martha Sosa-Johnson, director of the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement.

The University of California, Irvine School of Medicine Office of Diversity and Community Engagement (ODCE) was created within Medical Education.

In addition to supporting the core value of excellence through diversity, the ODCE supports and facilitates medical student community outreach activities.

Our medical students not only have a strong commitment to provide care to underserved populations, they also serve as mentors to local elementary, junior high and high schools.

The ODCE works closely with various medical student groups to coordinate medicine career workshops at local high schools and at UC Irvine's medical school campus to promote medicine as a career choice.

In addition, the ODCE, in conjunction with the UC Irvine Office of Admissions and Outreach and other UC Irvine School of Medicine programs, conduct community outreach activities to give young people the chance to learn about the many facets of medicine.

UC Irvine School of Medicine's philosophy is "tomorrow’s healthcare happens here today." The ODCE supports and propels this philosophy forward, educating the physicians of tomorrow and ensuring a brighter future for the youth of Orange County and the community at large.
