Since its founding in 1965, the University of California, Irvine has been known for its innovative spirit and strength in research and education.
The School of Medicine, established two years later, has grown dramatically in the past four decades. It now is renowned for its internationally recognized researchers and clinicians.
Last year, UC Irvine Health researchers received more than $165 million in research funding, including $148 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Many of the nation’s most innovative biomedical technologies and therapies have been developed by School of Medicine researchers.
Our research community boasts a stellar faculty, including a Nobel laureate, five members elected to the National Academy of Sciences, 14 elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and four members elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.
In all, the school has 553 faculty members, based in five physical science and 20 clinical science departments.
