UC Irvine Summer Premed Program

UC Irvine's Summer Premed Program is dedicated to fostering in high school students an interest in pursuing careers in medicine. It also seeks to empower medical students and pre-professional students who are accepted as program coaches to become lifelong teachers and leaders.

The sessions for the Summer Premed Program are full at this time and we no longer accept applications for Summer of 2012. Please visit our website in January 2013 for next year's summer sessions. However, we are excited to announce the opening of the Summer Research Academy for this summer.

The Summer Research Academy is run separately from the Summer Premed Program and is offered July 23rd to August 3rd  (no room and board).

The schedule for the Summer Premd Program which is full is as follows:

Session I: June 18 to June 29
Session II: July 9 to July 20 (have the option of room and board on campus)
Session III: July 23 to August 3

The two-week Summer Premed Program combines lectures given by UC Irvine School of Medicine faculty members and hands-on workshops to provide students with a first-rate exposure to the medical field. Students also are exposed to the practice of medicine and patient care at UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange County's only university hospital.

The program is geared toward giving students the experience of being a medical student. Activities include:

  • Casting and splinting
  • Clinical case studies
  • College and career development
  • Hospital and undergraduate tour
  • Human anatomy laboratory
  • Introduction to basic life support
  • Nutrition and effects on health
