An individual who is at least 18 years of age may make a gift of their body to the UC Irvine Willed Body Program. With program approval, a prior organ donation for transplant may be acceptable before the body is brought to UC Irvine. There is no upper age limit to the Willed Body Program.
UC Irvine
accepts donors residing within the Southern California counties of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside
and San Diego. With program approval, a donation may be made
from other counties throughout California. If a registered donor should die
outside of a 200-mile radius of the university, transportation can be provided
by the university, but may be at the expense of the next of kin.
The vast majority of
potential donors are accepted, including people with cancer, heart disease,
lupus, ALS, arthritis, stroke and diabetes. Organ transplant donors also may be
acceptable for Willed Body donation.
While we strive to accept every donation, final acceptance is contingent upon medical and suitability criteria at the time of passing, to honor the intent of donation and safely serve the needs of the medical community.
